Female Figure #13 - Georgia Norton Lodge
Ever catch yourself dreading your job or feeling like your boss just doesn’t get it? You’re definitely not alone—Georgia Norton Lodge of Georgia Draws A House was once there too. After feeling stuck in a 9-5 that drained her creativity, she decided that she had enough. So, she took the leap and started working on her art, where she could pour all her energy into what she loved.
Her journey began with something small—drawing a house for her mum, which turned into a side hustle. But before she knew it, that hustle grew into a thriving business that has not only allowed her to quit her job but has her working with major clients like Google and Amazon Prime doing what she loves. She’s gone from the daily grind to living life by design, doing what makes her heart happy.
What’s her secret? It’s all about letting go of the fear of what others think and just going for it. Sounds hard I know, but Georgia’s motto is “Nobody really cares!” and its a reminder to stop worrying and start doing, NOW.
Whether you’re dreaming of something bigger or craving for more freedom in your life, she’s proof that you can make it happen without waiting for the perfect moment. So if you’ve been fantasizing about ditching the daily grind and following your creative passion, take a page out of Georgia’s book, read on below to learn more about her story.
1. Tell us about yourself, and how did you come into business?
Georgia: I’m Georgia, an artist, business owner, and proud mum! My creative business journey started with a house—a literal house drawing for my mum. That drawing sparked a side hustle that eventually grew into my full-time business, Georgia Draws A House. At some point, I realised I was doing more than just drawing homes; I was building a life that I truly loved. So, I took a leap, left my 9-5, and haven’t looked back since! Now, I teach other creatives how to do the same—ditch the hamster wheel and step into a life of financial and creative freedom.
THE image that changed Georgia's life - It was posted in the Sydney Morning Herald and the next thing she knew her inbox was full of requests to draw more houses and quit her job the next day.
2. There’s no such thing as a typical work day for business owners, but could you take us through a typical day in your life?
Georgia: Oh, you’re right—there’s never a “typical” day. But, let’s try. My day kicks off with Tilby (my daughter) making sure I’m awake and ready to rock by 6 am. From there, it’s the day care drop-off and a swift coffee run before I dive into work. Most mornings, you’ll find me in my studio working on the business, mentoring students from my course Secret Artists’ Business, or juggling meetings with clients. Afternoons are usually filled with team check-ins, content creation, and tackling whatever tasks the business throws at me. I try to knock off by 4pm each day, and never work Fridays—team motto: Summer Fridays forever!.
"Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you, because that energy will push you forward. Don’t stress too much about what others are doing—no one can be YOU, and that’s your superpower."
3. As a mum, what challenges do you face while running your business and what do you do to overcome those challenges?
Georgia: It’s the ultimate juggling act, isn’t it? Balancing mum-life with business is equal parts rewarding and exhausting. The biggest challenge is time management—there’s always a moment where I’m like, “Am I doing enough?” For both my daughter and my business. What helps me is planning ahead (hello, Google Keep) and not feeling guilty about needing help. I’ve learned to lean on my support system—my mum, my mother in-law, my husband, my team, and a very, very good coffee shop!
4. How are you finding your Moodyboard, and has it helped you in any way?
Georgia: Oh, I love my Moodyboard—it’s a game changer! I’m a super visual person, so being able to organise my tasks and reminders on something that looks cute and keeps me focused is amazing. The Butter board has totally upped my organisation game, especially for both work and home life. Having a quick snapshot of what’s happening in my week helps me stay on top of things without losing my mind! I pop on my Spotify playlist, glance at my Moodyboard, and I’m ready to smash out my day.
5. When you look back at your journey, what are the key learnings you’ve picked up along the way? What advice would you give your younger self who was just starting out...?
Georgia: First, don’t be afraid to start messy! You don’t need everything to be perfect—just start. Second, community over competition always! Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you, because that energy will push you forward. And third, don’t stress too much about what others are doing—no one can be YOU, and that’s your superpower. If I could give younger me some advice, I’d say: trust the process, be patient, and don’t forget to rest!
